When attempting to reach Red Oak regarding their billing, I discovered that they use a sales office that represents greater than 30 treatment facilities. At no point were we told that the initial call regarding treatment went to a sales office, with the intent to steer our family to a center with rates that border on extortion. Though my health insurance was charged $153,000 during the time of my son's stay, they insisted on additional cash payments. For room and board, they charged $6000 per month. My brother needed urgent treatment soon after Hurricane Helene, and Red Oak was able to take him in while much of Western NC was utterly destroyed. He stayed for about 2 months, and they did keep him alive thank god. However, despite sharing a room with at least 4 other people at any given time and being fed mostly unhealthy foods like hamburgers and hot dogs, Red Oak charged us OVER $10,000 a month JUST for room and board.
