Excellent and in a wonderful location. Staff very helpful and the restaurant is top notch.
The room was fine although very small. The biggest issue was the parking. There are clearly not enough spaces and the spaces themselves appear to have been sprayed onto the asphalt by hand with just a spray can without a straight edge or tape measure. The disability spaces were placed behind other parked cars and would have to cause complete chaos depending on who wants to leave first. DO NOT STAY HERE. Upon check-in, we found both rooms to be in an unacceptable condition. They were visibly dusty and had a strong musty, damp smell. More concerningly, the bed sheets in both rooms had hair on them, which is entirely unhygienic. This was, without exaggeration, the DIRTIEST HOTEL EXPERIENCE I have had in Australia.When we complained the staff handled this situation by being unprofessional and dismissive. We were not the ones who had complained about this. So, do not book a stay with them.
There's a lot to unpack here so let's deal with the good things first; the hotel is conveniently located to most places and has parking; I gather this alone attracts people to book it and why we picked it as well. Now for the not-so-good: The name Quality Hotel Colonial is a misnomer in every respect. The bathrooms are TINY and very crowded (I've had larger bathrooms on trains). Not sure if the staff at the front desk are in the right industry. They really don’t like their jobs because if you ask a question it’s looked at with contempt. They tried charging me for unwrapped wooden cutlery for $2 a set! Also the older lady at the desk when checking out-when I said I got a bottle of water from the mini bar she said quite sarcastically, “you know you have to pay for that”, .
