We went the last day before the government shutdown and got a fantastic guided tour of the site by one of the rangers. They offer this at 1 pm each day and its well worth it to time your visit. The displays in the new visitors center are really well done. I would like to go back in a few years once the state restores the adjacent car house building and brings in some Pullman cars on display. The planned renovations were underway.
Pullman is such an important part of our history as a state, country and workforce. The national park was closed but the state stepped up and gave an awesome tour during Open House Chicago. It was unforgettable. The restoration of the work sites is amazing. The homes and community are beautiful and you just feel the history.
I actually loved wandering around Pullman. It’s wild to see this perfect town, all the neat brick rowhouses are still there. Head to the Visitor Center in the clock tower for a quick dose of history about the railroad cars and the big labor strikes that started here.
Pullman National Monument has a 4.7 star rating with 737 reviews.
Pullman National Monument is closed now. It will open tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
