first of all, its so incredibly sad and downright egregious how BAD the mental health system is, at least, in Spokane. I know someone who voluntarily checked herself in. im very close to this person and can tell you she wasn't at a dangerous level to herself or others. she had no "plan" or any "attempts". After a day she had calmed down from her panic attack and realized that they were not helping her at all. she was just stuck sitting there. she asked to leave several times and they wouldn't let her go. The night answering staff is unprofessional and there's no warmth at. If you don't like your job, work elsewhere. These are people in your care, not just hours on the clock. They have real families that care about them and if you're treating us like a burden for calling in, I can only imagine how you're treating patients. I get that staff and providers are busy, but when you're told you'll get a call back and never do, it's stressful for family members trying to coordinate or advocate for their loved one. Whoever was writing in my chart lied to say I had violent intentions when i went in for suicidal ideation, I'm currently in pocess with OBH to rectify this issue. As a result, after waiting in the waiting room for over 4 hours, was brought by two huge armed guards (I'm 5'1" and 115 lbs) to a barren room with a dirty bed, a magnetically locked door and a big camera in the corner, was given paper clothes that didn't fit, and was told i may have to spend the night there. They didn't tell me that I'd be transferred upstairs. Ups... read more

i willingly placed myself into this psych ward a few years ago. and it was truly traumatic. my family and i truly believe that part of why i’m so messed up is because of the trauma i faced being placed in here. i have now had over 50 hospitalizations and partly because of the distress i went thru here has changed me as a person.
