When aggregate is called DGA aggregate, that means it's Dense Graded Aggregate. This is also called "well-graded aggregate," as can be made of various materials. DGA has relatively equal-sized particles, and is often used as the base for concrete or asphalt applications.
There are several contexts in which it is both convenient and helpful to have topsoil delivered to your home. Topsoil can serve as an excellent turf top dressing and will enrich flower and vegetable gardens. In addition, it’s essential in the planting of new trees and shrubs and for new lawn installations.
What is “rip-rap?” The term refers to the irregularly shaped stone aggregate used to construct foundations, sustaining walls or retaining walls. Rip-rap is also used to prevent erosion on river and lake shorelines, face bridge abutments or as backfill for retaining walls.
Aggregate is actually one of the more versatile building materials around due to the innate strength in the individual particulates. A great example is yellow pea gravel. While this yellow/white gravel is often used for decoration, it can also be used for support in sub-surface gas tank installations.
Fill sand, pipe sand, and utility are all very similar grade of sand aggregate. This kind of sand is usually used for backfilling trenches, such as around utility pipes, or to backfill holes. Fine sand can be used, but fine sand is also used to fill sandbags or as a surface in horse arenas.
While getting your aggregate materials onto your property may not be much of an issue, getting them to the right location may present a challenge. If you’re having trouble with the logistics, we’re always here to help you find the best solution.
Aggregates are defined by particle size. Sand aggregate contains granules that are roughly .0025 and .0787 inches big, while the pebbles that make up gravel range from .079 to 2.5 inches in size. Within each category, there are further sub-classifications, like coarse, fine and superfine.
