I recently purchased a new home and actually had a plumbing inspection done by PPS prior to the purchase. (YES people, get a plumbing inspection before you buy). They gave some notes on the condition of my homes sewer pipes. The tech mentioned the gunk on top of pipes meant there had been back ups before and there was something called a belly on the pipe to.
