It’s a lovely building, staff are excellent and everything gets fixed very quickly. My apartment is very nice, spacious and airy but they have installed rubbish blinds which don’t block the light so that’s irritating in the summer. It is one of the more expensive blocks in Alexandria, People in HL1 have to pay an extra $35/month for some kind of HVAC extra which feels a bit of a con to keep the list price lower than reality. When I started my search for an apartment in the DMV, I was living out-of-state. The MAA Carlyle Square staff was so generous with their time and patience. After a virtual tour, I ultimately decided to sign a lease sight unseen. It has now been over one year, and I may never leave. I love the amenities onsite. (There are multiple gyms, pools, common areas, and courtyards.) The property is well-kept, clean, and super pet-friendly. Nice place and location. Maintenance and cleaning staff is super! Downfalls: Front office staff is not always very helpful with requests for help or treating residents with care. This didn't used to be this way, the first few years I was here the whole staff was lovely. The yearly big rental rates increases has not been great. It has seemed excessive. The pool in 601 sometimes has shortened seasons. Finally, it would be nice if the staff assisted in community building activities, picnics, holiday parties, potluck, BBQs, etc ... read more
