I have glaucoma and macular degeneration and in September 2009 I was declared legally blind by my glaucoma specialist. At that point, I decided to give up my car. My vision has become progressively worse over the course of the past year and I was beginning to feel that my vision was going to cause me to lose my independence and change my quality of living. My balance was affected and I was having difficulty reading (which I love) and working on my computer. After seeking help from another low vision specialist, I felt more h... read more

“I am 42 and have had low vision my whole life. Having lived in several different areas of the country, I’ve been to many eye doctors over the years. I have seen Dr. Politzer since the middle ‘90s. Although my vision has been stable throughout my life, there have been a couple bumps in the road. In 1997 (a month before my wedding), I contracted a serious eye infection. Through this ordeal, Dr. Politzer’s care could not have been more on target, compassionate and thorough. Last month, I somehow managed to acquire corneal abra... read more

The last reminder of my days of independence was the driver’s license in my billfold that remained up-to-date, but unused since 2006. Since my macular degeneration had continued to destroy my sight, I drove in the neighborhood but that was about all. At 81, I now faced a challenge. I could give up and continue to allow others to drive me or take my friend’s advice and see Dr. Politzer who might be able to help. Five months later, I cannot describe the joy that came with the DMV examiner’s words, “You passed.” I owe a big tha... read more

At age 38 I was diagnosised with macular degeneration. I knew that my vision would get progressively worse. I have since been found to be legally blind. I heard about Dr. Politzer from family in Tennessee and I traveled over 500 miles to Tennessee where I met Dr. Politzer. He showed me different low vision devices some of which he invented himself. I was amazed that there were so many out there. It seemed there was something to help me do everything from cooking to reading and driving. I now have 3 pair of glasses. One for wh... read more

I had a brain stem hemorrhage in 1990 that left me with double-vision. My regular optometrist told me that there was nothing that he could do. I heard of Dr. Politzer through a occupational therapist friend of mine in 1997.She had been to one of his seminars where he talked of helping people like me, with double-vision. I went to him and he fitted me with prism glasses that eliminate my double-vision! Everything looks so much better! My prism glasses, along with some vision therapy exercises that I do, are also improving my ... read more

Dr. Politzer has been my eye doctor for about 15 years. His extensive training and knowledge in the field of low vision turned what seemed to be a hopeless situation for me into a very manageable and pleasant outcome. During my teen years, I was told by more than one eye doctor that I would never be able to drive because of my vision and that I would always be dependent on someone else. As a teen, this news was devastating. However, I received a referral to see Dr. Politzer. He informed me that the news I had received previo... read more

I have had Macular Degeneration since birth. In addition to this condition I am severely nearsighted and have a pronounced Astigmatism. Because of the Macular Degeneration it is impossible to correct my nearsighted vision. I am considered Legally Blind and since I was old enough to know that a person needed a driver's license to drive, I thought that I would never drive. In mid 1996 at the age of 26 I had my first exam with Dr. Politzer. At the end of that first exam he informed me that I qualified to use a bioptic lens for ... read more
