Loved this experience!! The guides are so passionate about the wildlife in the area and their work in conservation. I really appreciated the opportunity to learn more about penguins, fur seals, dolphins, whales, and the birds that frequent this bay. The property is also beautiful as it is a working farm. They move the sheep and cows frequently to encourage the regrowth of native New Zealand bush. Watching the herding dogs work was a highlight as I have a working dog back home. What a wonderful sanctuary. My partner and I visited recently while in New Zealand. Such an experience to see the chicks hiding away. The guide was amazing. Full of information and obviously passionate about the penguins. If you’re in New Zealand it is well worth a visit. The world needs more places like this to protect our wildlife.
We had an incredible kayaking trip in the afternoon with our very knowledgeable and friendly guide Ben who was a perfect host both during the drive and on the water. Saw penguins both on water and on land, as well as many seals. Ben told many interesting stories about the nature and history of Akaroa and NZ which made the trip a special experience. Can highly recommend the kayaking tour.

We went on a tour that was divided into two groups. One group went on an hour walk around the area and up to a view point. Our group stayed in the front yard of a house for the hour and opened two nesting boxes in that front yard. We also had our guide talk to us about the penguins. I tried to relay constructive comments directly to the management and the response was something substantially like the two tours were identical because we got the lecture and opened two nesting boxes (both for abour 30 seconds).
