Called 2 days ago and was told they don't take appts because "they can serve more people". Asked for days that typically had lower crowds to minimize my time off work for my fasting labs. "It depends". Showed up at 6:55 AM this morning (a Friday). They opened at 7 AM. 5 people already ahead of me. Got checked in. Went to the lab waiting room--and by 7:30 it was completely filled with patients. Employee comes in then and says "Don't shoot the messenger but our phlebotomist isn't coming in today." Very fast and nice to the patients.
The staff is great here. Friendly and courteous. But everyone, including them, are frustrated with these new systems UPMC switched to. This place used to be extremely fast for doing bloodwork. It now moves at a snails pace. No fault of the employees. Definitely need to find a way to make this move faster. If you’re coming for labs, prepare to be here at least an hour, probably closer to two. The one star review does not reflect the friendliness of the staff.
