It didn't hurt a bit! I was middle-aged before deciding to take the plunge and have my ears pierced. I talked to friends and did some looking around and then talked to the people at Piercing Pagoda. I went back a few days later and had them done. The people there were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Before I knew it, both ears were done. (And to ease my nerves, they gave me a stuffed toy puppy -- with pierced ears -- to hold!) I had no problems at all afterwards.
