It did its job. It housed me and my roommate for our school year, but that is all it did. The apartment on Arthur Ashe Blvd was charming, in a way, aside from the warped floors, doors and drawers that don’t close properly (I literally had to ram my body into our front door to open it), windows that would seem open considering I can hear every little noise outside, and the fact that a seemingly homeless man was allowed inside the building and slept under the stairwell for a couple days. My partner and I were asked by Pierce Arrow to put down a $500 deposit to "reserve" an apartment (in addition to the application fees we were also charged). Despite us "reserving" the apartment, Pierce Arrow took another applicant's reservation fee and allowed them to sign the lease while our application was still processing. When I called their office, the manager, Madeline, was incredibly condescending and unhelpful. Pierce Arrow relies on folks looking for housing in convenient locations (near VCU/carytown) in order to rent out their dilapidated, inadequate units. It's really quite sad, as our apartment on Arthur Ashe was likely once a lovely building that was allowed to fall into disrepair by this slumlord company. After having water damage on one of our walls multiple times, they decided to cancel our renewal once we gave them notice of lead exposure from when they ripped our wall open and left paint dust all over one of our bedrooms ... read more
