Great place to stop and take a break and use the restroom after a long drive to get to the fossil beds and see an iconic natural wonder at the same time. Little to no cell service, so don’t exit out of your navigation app.
We loved this area. The hills are beautiful and there are various trails for differing levels of ability. The visitor center has some souvenirs for purchase and there is a bathroom and picnic tables in a nice grassy area. There was Wi-Fi when we were there. We did the visitor center, Painted Hills Overlook, Painted Cove Trail, then the Leaf Hill Trail. The Leaf Hill Trail was underwhelming, but the other sites were great.

Painted Hills was a nice, scenic drive (from Madras). The hills colors are beautiful. Avoid taking the road through Ashwood, you'll have to drive through water!
