I had to go in for planned surgery at Riverbend hospital for colon surgery. The staff is overworked and not enough staff for all the patients. I was there for 3 days and couldn't wait to get out of there. Saturday I had a bad reaction to some pain medication and vomited all over myself. I waited for at least 20 minutes after pushing the call button for a nurse to come help me. I was sent to the ER by my PCP. I have no other ER experience so this was a first. Check in was pretty mechanical, I’m sure they get tired of the same thing over and over. There was several stages of the experience and I was there for several hours. As busy as they were the nurses took their time and were kind and friendly. If you are a woman do NOT see PA Garrett Brady. If you want to be dismissed, gaslight, told your symptoms are PLACEBO straight to your face, and sent home in pain with zero treatment or medication, then Garrett Brady is the one for you!
It's easy to complain about understaffing. But our community needs a second ER. I worked in medicine for many years, in and out of the military. I had nurses and staff go out of their way to make me comfortable in an extremely painful situation. Everyone gave me excellent care. It was a very long day, but I was well cared for. Especially on a very busy day for emergencies.
