I’ve ordered from Orchid Thai many times before. I placed an order today online (Mothers day) around 4:45PM. I waited extra time before driving to pick up since I anticipated them being busy from the holiday. I got to the restaurant about 5:45. There were several other customers waiting to be seated. The hostess didn’t acknowledge anyone waiting to pick orders up for 20+ minutes (she was running around doing many things). Finally she asked me my name for my pickup order. We’ve been patrons since they opened but over the last year this place has been in sharp decline. Missing items, mediocre quality, and today after calling in a takeout order two hours in advance and arriving 10 minutes after the estimated pickup time, the curt and always unapologetic greeting at the counter was that our food would be ready in another 30 minutes. Pad Thai was very vinegary and the steamed dumplings were soggy and gross-looking. Restaurant was understaffed. They do such a brisk take-out business that they could not focus on the diners in the room. We got minimal service with no pleasantries. Hectic environment. Very expensive for what we got.
Hands down, number one. The chef must be using some kind of special sauce, because I’ve never had Thai food this good anywhere. Every dish is consistently flavorful and just hits every time. The place itself has that older, classic charm. It’s not modern or flashy, but that’s exactly what I love about it's feels authentic, warm, and full of character.
