Opened since 1981 in trendy Soho, Omen was one of the original restaurants that introduced the sushi craze to New York, thereby the rest of America. Omen has its original restaurant in Kyoto and the influence found in that city is highlighted in their New York locale, where styles with an affinity to the old capital like shabu-shabu and sashimi reign supreme. The decor is simple, zen-like and tranquil, yet modern enough to know you are in one of the coolest neighborhoods in the entire United States.

Delicious SASHIMI, no sushi – Omen does not serve your typical take-out, aluminum-and-plastic-container Japanese food. Surprise at the end should be an Ome – Our Ikura arrived as a pile of shredded sea-wheat some loose salmon roe eggs sprinkled over an artfully cut radish with an open quail egg on the side. There was no way to maneuver the quail egg onto the salmon row and eat it as intended. When, presented with a $400.00 bill we were told that only Amex was accepted.
