This place is a scam - don't come here This place is a racket and a scam. Seriously, don't go here. I went for the first time because I just started UC Berkeley and my old dentist (in San Francisco) wasn't covered on my new insurance plan. When I went in the office was beautiful, the people were friendly and they had fancy tea in the waiting room - but I was made suspicious by the fact that when I signed in they gave me a form to sign up for Care Credit - one of those programs that gives zero interest loans to pay for dental work but charges you a fortune if your payments are even a little late. They haven't even looked at my teeth and they're already trying to sign me up for credit? Sketch. I was just there for a cleaning and check up and it had been a year and a half since my last dentist appointment. The super friendly hygienist cleans my teeth and takes some x-rays and pictures. Then the woman from the reception area (who is NOT a dentist) takes me into a room where she shows me pictures of my teeth and tells me I am going to need thousands of dollars worth of work that my insurance wont cover, including tons of fillings and at least one crown. A crown! Mind you I'm 23, and when I went to the dentist a year and a half ago didn't have so much as a cavity. She gives me a long sales pitch about how if I don't get this work now I will need root canals later, and is vehement that I sign up for the Care Credit program. All this, and a dentist hasn't even looked at my teeth! Heck, he hadn't even looked at the pictures yet. I told her I wanted to wait to sign up for anything until a dentist looked at the pictures. She said that he would call me. A week passes, he doesn't call, and I call them to ask if he has looked at the pictures and x-rays. They tell me that he hadn't, and were waiting to see if I would sign up for the payment plan (cause I said I would think about it). So I contacted my old dentist and San Francisco and told him the story and he said to have their office send him the x-rays and he'd look at my teeth, no charge. So I called and ask them to send him the x-rays and they said that will cost $60! I asked if I could just get a written copy of the dentists report, and they said that would also be $60! Anyway, my old dentist said screw it, he'll just take new x-rays. I go see him, he does an exam and takes new x-rays, and guess what? My teeth are perfect. Not so much as a cavity. Seriosuly - screw these people. They should be shut down by the dental board.

What a great location! BART station for those who use public transit, want something to eat or walk around and then visit the dentist. Tamarindo - and then straight to the dentist, was my schedule. The office is located in an old historic building, which meant I had to go up the stairs (the elevator is a little hidden) but this was the only drawback. As I was walking to the front door, I was impressed with the decor of reception area. Old Oakland Dental doesn't scream dentist (no pun intended). Talk about blending the old charm of the building with modern chic furniture and accessories. Large windows, clean lines, music playing, hot herbal tea and apples... very inviting :). I was here for my first time and had to fill out my medical/dental history. Like most initial visits to the dentist I had to take x-rays. Remember when you were a kid and took x-rays with those cardboard inserts that always poked the inside of your mouth? Well, no more cardboard. Everything is stored on a computer. Their hygienist Jackie did my cleaning. She is super sweet, did a great job and only made me bleed once, just kidding. She was professional and very gentle. My previous hygienists used to make my gums bleed when they flossed because my contacts are tight, but not the case with Jackie. I hope she can always do my cleaning. Then Dr. Michael came in, introduced himself and did a check up. An important thing is that I felt like I can trust him - he's friendly and frank about what needs treatment and what we should look out for later down the line. Good news - I get to keep my teeth till the old ripe age :) Some things I really liked was: great location for my work Downtown, appointments at 7AM available on certain days, female staff (hee hee), a dentist I can trust AND takes my insurance, and they had refreshments available. Great place, fantastic staff... Will be back in 6 months :)

Definitey recommend I saw Dr. Tsotsiashvili when I lived in the Bay Area and he and his staff were extremely friendly. He was very professional and I had a great experience. I don't live in Oakland anymore, but would highly recommend this dental office to anyone in the area!

I admit I go extra mile when it comes to maintaining decent appearance. So finding a great cosmetic dentist was pretty important. With Dr. Michael, I literally have to go a few extra miles now, because my family used to see him in San Francisco, but after he opened his practice in Oakland, I am willing to cross the bridge to see him at Old Oakland Dental. I find it comforting that treatments are well explained, and reasonable options are suggested. I appreciate it that Dr. Michael talked me out of a full set of superwhite veneers and just did 4 of my front teeth with a more natural look. Also, someone who can get my Dad to come to cleanings, must be good...
