Stunning!
A very short walk from the Visitor Center of Haleakala National Park south entrance. This is where you will find the 7 Sacred Pools and some waterfalls. The views of the pools were nice and the ocean views were mesmerizing. Along the way, we learnt about the history of the area and Hawaii’s land division history. You will need to have a National Park Pass or buy a 3-day pass good for all National Parks for $30 at the entrance. It's cool, see it if you're around. Access only through the national park (NP) or when you drive over the bridge (plenty of signs telling you not to stop and there's no parking area other than the NP, sadly).
Second time here since 25 years ago, and it’s as beautiful as we remembered it. But unfortunately the state park had to permanently close off access to the pools with fencing some time ago because of people, presumably mostly tourists, acting stupidly… not respecting the area by endangering themselves, trashing the place and defacing it.
Fun park to view waterfalls and the pools. No beaches here. The loop hike to the pools is half a mile and mostly flat. The hike to see the bigger falls is out-and-back and fairly strenuous and all uphill. The Banyan tree is 0.5 miles up and the bamboo forest is 1 mile up. It took a fairly fit couple about 40 minutes to the Banyan tree and back. So if a family wants to do the full trail, bring snacks and plan for at least half a day. Facilities were well-maintained and restrooms were available.
ʻOheʻo Gulch has a 4.6 star rating with 593 reviews.
