Take the MTA downtown during rush hours it's faster than a taxi
If checking in at Terminal 1 (United Terminal), it is usually (not always) best to go through security on far left (for F&G gates).
This is a useful place to get on airplanes which will take you away from Chicago, and thus is really convenient during wintertime.
Early bird gets the legroom. Travel as early in the day as possible to avoid crowds and getting bumped by passengers who got bumped or canceled earlier in the day.
