We had neglected to clean the excess brake dust off the custom wheels of our pickup truck for 6 years, and when it came time to sell it, the wheels looked too nasty for photographs. We hired Official Colorado Detailing (Timberline just north of the Fort Collins Recycling Center) to clear off the excess, but we expected the result would be still-dark and pitted wheels (just not as gross).
