If you're into science, this is the spot
Really cool! You see it in the movies, but the pictures don't do it justice. Super friendly staff. Very knowledgeable staff. Watched volunteers stand in the pouring rain, still directing people, and not complaining. You will be awed, if your even a tiny bit geeky.
Stopped in real quick to take pictures. The size of these things are amazing. Located in a beautiful area and not that far from Albuquerque
For science and astronomy buffs this is a must visit/bucket list location. I was staying in ABQ and made the scenic two hour drive down. The topography is icing on the nerd cake. My visit was solo and the weather was perfect. Large moisture filled clouds cast the most amazing shadows on the giant lake bed in which the VLA lies. There was enough wind to have the sounds of the planets piece sing. Most importantly, regardless of the configuration, one dish is always close to the main buildings/visitor center area.
Outstanding science unfolds in this carefully crafted walking tour. Amazing!
