The issue with having so many small-city-size housing authorities throughout LA means that you’re restricted to a tiny geographic area to find a Section 8 rental. Many landlords in Norwalk break the law by refusing Section 8 vouchers, even when the rent is within the payment standard. The failure rate is high. I moved my voucher to Norwalk and fortunately they denied my voucher due to because of my background and they sent it back to orange county. I have five children and they did not want to help me.
Norwalk has no availability whatsoever! I have been searching for a two bedroom unit since July, only to loose money on application fees. Most of the places are run down apartments. Hardly anyone accepts Section 8. What’s the point of issuing a voucher that serves no purpose? The Housing Authority provides no assistance with locating a complex or property that accepts your voucher; perhaps it’s because they already know there is no availability!
Currently received my voucher, but in all honesty Norwalk doesn’t have many options to look at. The landlords don’t offer section 8 tenants, their rent is beyond living, I have a child and they really expect for your child to live in the room with you? A living room is not considered a room in my opinion. All the buildings that do accept section 8 are Senior citizens home I’m on 39.
