Saved my life! I needed a double lung transplant after some chemotherapy drugs destroyed my lungs. Northwestern was one of the only hospitals in the country willing to try and help me. Dr Kurihara performed the surgery. Many doctors have said they wouldn't know from my X ray I even had a transplant he did such a phenomenal job. It's been one year since my transplant and I've had no complications and my team makes sure of it. I drive 7 hours one way to make sure theyre the ones in charge of my care.
My mom had a lung transplant here and I have so many mixed feelings. The preliminary testing and scheduling was wonderful, they were really on top of what was needed and when. Her care when she was there from the nurses and CNAs and respiratory therapists was wonderful. I cannot say any kinder words about them. Unfortunately I've had a bad experience with Northwestern Lung Transplant team as a healthcare professional that shares a mutual patient. The nurse that I spoke to this morning was extremely unprofessional and rude. She yelled at me repeatedly and over talked me while I was trying to explain something to her. She did not have the right information and refused to listen to the explanation that I was attempting to give her. I had my double lung transplant at Northwestern medicine early this year during the time of Covid-19. My testing and interviews pre-transplant made me highly confident of my safety and a good result.
