Jerry Husted, Jim Husted and Gail Davis formed Nordic Tugs in 1979. The company s parent company was Blue Water Boats, which built double-ended ocean ketches. However, in 1974 a fuel crisis occurred and powerboat owners curtailed from using fuel for pleasure. Husted worked on finding the right boat for the powerboat market and decided on tugboats that naturally moved slow and would save on fuel, but also had muscle in its design to appeal to powerboat buyers.
