Not Vegetarian Friendly – I looked at their menu online and they only have a couple real vegetarian options however, they have a number of dishes that would easily be made vegetarian by leaving out the shrimp or substituting tofu for meat. Most restaurants do this with no issues but I wanted to take someone from out of town so I called first just to make sure. I was told by the person on the phone that they do not do any substitutions! I can understand that for the sushi but for the fried rice you can?t just leave out the me... read more
snotty two hour wait - before 8pm - take reservations! – Our party of 2 arrived at 7:45 and were told an hour and 15 minute wait, and that they were out of pagers, "so come back and check if you want one." At 9:45, after 2 hours of waiting in the lounge (for the first 45 minutes we were waiting for a seat), I inquired about the wait and the "book was not here" so the hostess could not tell me. I waited for a second hostess and asked her, saying we had been there for 2 hours. She snapped back, "Um, no, you got here at 8, you'... read more
BAD SERVICE, good food. – Although I have nothing but nice things to say about the actual food, I have to complain about the service at Nikko! Since their move, I have had horrible service on 3 separate occasions! 1) The waitress added a personal tip and forged my signature. It took 3 weeks (phone calls/conversations with managers etc.) to be reimbursed. 2) The waitress forgot our order. 3) The waitress lied about being unable to split our tab. Now I'm not the usual cranky whiner...I've waited tables and I know what it's lik... read more
Great food and ambience – Nikko's is a great party spot. The sushi is great and the atmosphere reminds you of NYC or Miami. On the weekends, the place is packed and everyone looks nice. Charlotte can be a sorta of low key fashion city. .. often times I find people too casually dressed. Nikko's is the place where you can put on a nice outfit and go out and party. Great spot!
Just go to the bar – The guys at the "bar" bar (not the sushi bar) will take spectacular care of you considering the chaos that they are going through. With just a little patience you will be granted with speedy service and maybe even a good joke or two. I only go on the weekends and sadly I don't know their names but amidst the craziness they seem to keep their cool and are all too eager to get you what you need. I have yet to have to wait on the long waiting list and have been very happy every time.
Mediocre food and bad service – Nikko is extremely snobbish and caters to such a crowd. The sushi is nothing to mention about, the ambiance is that of a sports tavern, and the service is fit for a tavern. The owner seems to flitter around the place but does not interact with you unless you are a regular, I bet. That is the last thing you want to do. There are very few sushi places around Charlotte and maybe thats why this place seems popular.
I can't wait go! – I have heard how good Nikko's was. I have not eaten there yet. I pass it all the time and have wanted to stop in and have some sushi. The past week I have noticed that they are moving next door and looking thru the windows it looks GREAT inside. I can't wait to go and check it out.
So-so at best – I have had sushi all over the world - some really good, some really bad. This falls in the 'eh' category. Service was bad and the food was unremarkable. Much-hyped by the community but I couldn't say why. Still looking for the best sushi in town. Hope I find it because it's one of my favorite things.
Sushi Snob Surprise – I am a sushi snob. I've had sushi straight off the bone at Tsukiji as well as onboard fishing charters off the coast of New England. I've been to the best in NYC, LA, SF and the worst all over. Everywhere I've gone, there has been something to write positively about. Nikko in Charlotte was a pleasant surprise. My overall impression of Charlotte is not great. I've had nice steaks and decent BBQ and a lot of other unmemorable meals. The sushi that I have had thus far in Charlotte was NOT good. Nikko was V... read more
