Negative review – Poor customer service I signed up at Newtown Gym for $30/week. When I joined, I was told I had to pay a $69 deposit for the key, and that I would get this money back once I returned the key if I cancelled my membership. After 4 months, I went back to return my key, but was told there is actually no deposit and that the key is “for life” – the complete opposite of what I was told at sign-up. This gym has been excellent. The staff are hard-working, helpful, and friendly. The equipment is well-maintained, clean, and varied, with enough of each type of machine to avoid waiting. There are various different classes, with very competent and friendly instructors. My husband and I (both in our sixties) have been to many gyms in our lives, and this one is a standout. Highly recommended.

Newtown Gym is the friendliest and cleanest gym I’ve ever trained at—and I’ve trained at a lot. Great variety of equipment, welcoming staff, and an unpretentious mix of locals. The weights room is especially female-friendly. The whole gym has that classic Newtown feel—laid-back, inclusive, and full of character.

I was a member at this gym for over 27 years decided to not renew my membership, not so much as a call to inquire why, maybe I was sick etc or a thank you for all the years supporting the gym ...the reason I left was as follows .. I have watched the gym experience a slow death, floor classes have dwindled to become almost non existent.
