Newcastle Clinic boasts the only open MRI scanner in the North East of England, Cumbria and Scotland. We accept NHS referrals for patients who are claustrophobic or obese. The open MRI provides a much more comfortable experience as it has no walls, is twice as wide as a standard MRI and is much quieter. We also offer ultrasound imaging and image intensifying at our private clinic in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I Had an Open MRI here on 1/9/25 after trying the closed type scanner at my local hospital and been able to go through with it on more than one occasion due to having bad Claustrophobia. I was almost at the point of not bothering. The staff at Newcastle Clinic are absolutely fantastic the atmosphere is so calming and they make sure your happy and comfortable answering any questions I had. Asked my consultant if I could be referred here for my MRI because of claustrophobia in closed scanners. I am pleased that I did. My MRI took longer (as it does in an open scanner) but that wasn't a problem. The machine is much, much quieter, and I was talked through it every step of the way: how long I had to hold my breath (a few seconds), what was happening at each stage and how long it would take. The care I received was truly wonderful, I was put at ease by the staff from start to finish I’m truly greatful
When for open scan as could not use ordinary scanner was weary but staff brilliant got me relaxed and well looked after in scanner room. Very pleasant
