John Hicks was recommended to us by a family member for whom Mr Hicks completed a major renovation in 2021. This family member is an engineer with a lifetime career in construction, so we valued his objectivity. We have hired Mr Hicks to build a new house for us in Avery County, NC. He has delivered on every commitment to date, is experienced, the ultimate professional, and has a sense of humor. All the subcontractors we’ve met think highly of him. We’re really enjoying working with him.
Do not use this builder if you want to stay on budget. I was given a quote and the builder went over 45,000 dollars. After being told repeatedly that we were okay, the overage appeared in the final statement. Several attempts were made to settle on a fair compromise but were continually ignored by the builder who threatened a lein on my house, while I was trying to secure the additional costs. I would never recommend using him for your construction needs.
