14 hours and counting… this is how long I’ve been waiting for a bed. I’m currently in the Subacute area of the Emergency Department at Nepean Hospital with appendicitis and have been waiting for a bed for over 14 hours. I’m in significant pain and have been sitting in the waiting room for hours. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable, making it difficult to even sit, let alone rest. It’s 4am and we’re 8+ hours into our visit in the ER and have only been seen by a nurse. I’m appalled by what I’ve seen tonight. Waiting room is full of people who should go to the GP (eg young adults with cold and influenza) and drug addicts. Plenty of nurses here but I’m told only three doctors across ED. I had no idea the standard of care was this bad.

I am writing to express my disappointment with our experience at the Emergency Department at Nepean Hospital. On Thursday evening, my 5-year-old son was referred by our GP after a deep ear cut requiring stitches. We arrived around 5:30 pm and waited about three hours before being moved to the children’s area. Despite this, no doctor assessed his injury—only his blood pressure was checked.
