I am very fortunate to be under the care of Dr. Nel ever since moving to Comox. He came highly recommended by my previous doctor in Vancouver. He is very knowlegeable and takes the time to explain my condition and treatment options in everyday layperson terms. He checks in with me regularly to ensure my medications are working correctly and my health is good. His office support staff are responsive and helpful.
My partner has been treated by Dr. Nel. Though so many times when you are told to call or email to book appointments, you call and no one picks up, you leave voicemail and they never ever return their calls. Email also no response. So frustrated we went to office many times during his hours of operation and the doors are locked. Worse service ever, especially when you travel from Nanaimo to Comox to get the service. Basically said it was all in my head and refused to give me an endoscopy something I know I need. And the receptionist don’t even get me started. She’s very short tempered when you talk to her in person. But quite often doesn’t give any messages to the dr when I try to call or leaves the answering machine full so I can’t leave a message.
Dr Nel is a real piece of work. Complete db@g in his treatment of other healthcare employees. He is impossible to work with and is rude and snarky on the phone.
I have had an excellent experience with Dr. Nel and his office staff, which I felt might be useful to other folks looking for advice here. In my experience as his patient (though I am fairly new, having been his patient for a year and a half), Dr. Nel has been kind, patient, and personable, takes time to answer my questions, discuss my condition and prognosis, and explain and walk through medical procedures.
