When calling the customer service line to close my deceased Mother's accounts, I was told that I had to bring her death certificate to a bank branch to close her checking account. I drove 45 miles to the closest branch, with her death certificate, only to be told that I had to be the 'executor' of her estate to close her bank account with a zero balance.
