My experience with Mt. Airy has been nothing short of frustrating, and I would not recommend purchasing a horse from them. The first time I bought a horse from Mt. Airy, I was not informed that the horse was a cribber. While I’ve grown to love him despite the challenges, it should have been disclosed. Unfortunately, I gave Mt. The staff out front were super nice. The office ladies were nice, the facility was nice. However, I witnessed the worst animal treatment I’ve ever seen. I go to auctions all the time and I have never seen anything like this! There was a young boy working in the back to load animals. He was attempting to load a trailer in front of us. I watched him literally beat a goat with a paddle to the point the goat was unresponsive and unable to get up. They tossed it in the trailer floor and kept loading animals on top of it. When my husband and I met and then when we bought our farm, this was our favorite place to go. This was our little getaway and over the course of our weekend getaways we have spent thousands and thousands of dollars at the auction barn. I'm not going to complain about the chicken and goat auctions, other than to say one time they let one of our purchased goats leave with someone else. They did refund us, it was just disappointed. The facility was nice. That's the only positive thing I have to say. Sheep didn't bring anything and you can tell they pocketed a lot of it. In fact none of the animals brought a lot. The handlers were not to nice either. One would literally pick up and throw the sheep and kick them. The woman helping the auctioneer everyone was flirting with. The staff was only nice to you if they have known you their whole life it seemed like. The actual auction was very unclear on what all you were buying etc. If you have never been there... read more
