Best call I made before listing our runabout was getting Shipshape Boat Detailing in to deal with the oxidation. Years of Perth sun had left the hull chalky and dull, to the point where I'd assumed that was just how it was going to look from now on. They worked on it on the trailer at home, brought everything with them, and took the oxidation back properly rather than just polishing over the top of it. Easily the least painful part of owning a boat. I sorted a time by text, said where she was sitting, and that was about the extent of my involvement. Had the painted topsides corrected. A few seasons of sun had taken the gloss off and there were swirls in it from someone's earlier go with a buffer, and it came back deep and even. No complaints at all. I'd had the teak on our flybridge looking sorry for a couple of summers and kept putting off doing something about it — they cleaned it back without stripping the life out of it, and it's kept that colour since. They work at the boat, which for me meant the pen, and they bring the lot with them. I didn't have to be there the whole time once we'd sorted out access. Also went over the stainless while they were on board. Straightforward to arrange around a work week. I'll get them back before next summer... read more

The mobile side of it is what got me over the line. They turned up at the berth with everything on board, so I didn't have to move the boat anywhere or block out a whole day for it. Main job was oxidation removal down the hull sides. The white had gone chalky enough that it came off on your hand if you leaned on it, and that's gone now — the colour underneath looks close to what it did when we bought her. Selling our runabout and wanted it looking its best for photos, so I got them in for an exterior detail. They met me at the ramp, unloaded everything out of their own vehicle and got on with it while I sat in the car answering emails. The gelcoat had gone flat and a bit hazy across the bow and they brought most of that back, and the aluminium trim and stainless rails came up sharp too.
