After 18 years of practicing martial arts (Taekwondo, BJJ, MCMAP, Muay Thai, and Kick boxing), I was looking for striking and grappling integrated into one martial art. Shifu Yerzy was an excellent and dedicated teacher for my 8 year old son's first martial arts class. He gave individual as well as group instructions, taking time to make sure each student understood the concept and technicality of what was being taught. He employed clear communication, and lead a class with a serious and respectful atmosphere, where each child felt valued and seen, encouraging the students to expand what they were capable of. My son has been training at Monterey Martial Arts under Shifu Mike Yerzy for over two years. It is amazing how much his self confidence has soared during this time, not to mention his self defense skills and overall toughness. I can honestly say Monterey martial arts has been such a blessing for my daughter. She’s not only learned the skills on the mat, but she’s really grown in discipline, leadership, and even empathy.
