Had so much fun visiting and spending a few hours sifting for sapphires. I love the fact that they also sell bags of gravel, so I’ve purchased numerous bags since my trip a year ago. I’ve also gifted bags of gravel - they make an awesome unique gift.
This was such a fun experience! We all came out with something and it was a fun family activity. Bring your sunscreen, you'll be in the sun so you can see the gems better. You will also get shark teeth and all sorts of other small gems too, not just sapphire. Bring water! The prices were great for what you get out of it.
We stayed in Philipsburg and had this shop on our list of places to visit... and we are so glad we did! The employees were very kind and friendly. The whole experience was really fun. We purchased the "Gem Krazy" bag. It was a great activity to do with our two kids (ages 3 and 4). We spent about one hour sifting through the bag and picking out our treasures.
My family had a fun time looking for sapphires. The man helping us was so friendly and nice. We found some great gems. Two nice large ones and many smaller ones. The help at the end was so great they explained the quality of our finds and recommended which ones we should get cut. I can't wait to get them set into jewelry we can show off!!
Got the jug of gems with heat treated sapphires. I found 11 sapphires with only 3 or four that were facetable. Pretty expensive for what I got. Most were less than 1 karat. Not worth it.
