This modern toll plaza is notably located near the ruins and remains of “Bonello’s Tavern”, (est 1920-1935), which received some notoriety after it was raided by Florida state police for the (Prohibition era) illegal sale of alcohol in August of 1928. Like I don’t pay enough taxes
This was a nice easy detour to avoid heavy traffic on US1. The roads and bridge were in excellent condition. The toll was $2.00 plus 50 cents per axle. The $3.00 was money well spent in my opinion. You can only pay with SunPass or other accepted transponder (website says others such as EZPass work) or they will bill you by your license plate. Ignore old posts about the road or bridge being in bad shape. Everything was very well kept, and the road south of the bridge appeared to be recently re-paved.
