I attended this clinic hoping for a diagnosis and appropriate treatment; however, I left distressed and without any clear answers. I have chronic stomach pain, persistent nausea, and changes in bowel habits, and was referred for specialist assessment. The gastroenterologist appeared dismissive and did not take a detailed history of my symptoms or carry out any investigations. I had a procedure around 2020 and was advised unsympathetically that I had pancreatic issues as a result of likely too much alcohol. This was peculiar as I am certainly not / never been a big drinker. I was told that this is what someone who drinks too much might say. I was ashamed and confused. Fast forward to 2025 and I have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and a particular mutation which impacts specifically the pancreas and presents the same. Probably the best healthcare I’ve ever received. Dr Shireen listened carefully, ordered the right tests, and trusted her instincts when she suspected something more was going on. Prof Paul then took over and delivered exceptional, compassionate care throughout. As a woman of colour, I’ve carried concerns about how we are treated in the healthcare system which has made me nurse my pain at home in most cases. This experience changed that. I felt genuinely heard, respected and well looked after. Highly recommend.
