They have a terrible online system that makes it difficult to pay both electric and water at the same time, they require you to be EMAILED an autopay form (on request only) and fill it out and email it back you them to set up autopay, multiple representatives have been downright rude to me, and they read your water meter twice yearly and stick you with a giant bill every 6 months to “make up for the difference of their estimated amount they billed for 6 months”. We had an undetected leak in our pipes that we knew was outside the house. I contacted Modern Electric to see how they could assist, and initially, we were told we’d need to figure it out ourselves. So, we began investigating on our own. The day my husband started digging, John from Modern Electric unexpectedly arrived with a work order to assess the situation. This company hates the government so much it screwed over its customers by not allowing them to get utility credits to pay their bills. What a horrible CEO makes their poorest customers suffer because he is mad that they keep losing elections. I wonder why people don't want to vote for the people they support?
If you're able to, I recommend avoiding using Modern for your utilities. Their executive team is unfortunately politicized to the point of modifying their services to persuade customers to specific political conclusions. Most recently was disbanding bill assistance funded by the state's climate program, the same day they pinned an article lambasting the climate program, and the bill assistance specifically, on their homepage.
