I needed an account for my hobby income and decided to give this outfit a try by opening a savings account. Due to COVID I did not have any hobby income for couple years, and they changed the status of the account to inactive without telling me and started charging an inactivity fee every month Only after 6 months did they send a statement and I found out. The money management app and perks are really cool! The app takes too long to log into, and the services there fail a lot. They need to work on their IT side and investing there. Not 5 stars because I recently got off the phone and the person was rude. She hung up without asking if I needed anything else, or at least a goodbye. She sounded annoyed through the process of understanding how to apply for a personal loan. These are fundamental, customer service routines. I think the 1st reviewer has the wrong bank. I have been with MITfcu for more than a decade. 1. I've lived in Florida the past 6 years and had no trouble banking thru shared branches. 3. Been cashing checks with the app for at least 5 years now. 4. Never has a fee I felt was unfair not like they are Bank of America. If you qualify for this credit union go for it. Great rates and always helpful on the phone.
Avoid this bank! When I came to the US, I made the mistake to create an account at MIT Federal Credit Union. Four main issues: 1. Good luck using it when you are outside Boston (internship/vacation/post-graduation) 2. They gave me a credit card without explaining to me how it works in the US (I come from France where we don't distinguish credit cards from debit cards).
