We called ahead about brunch and spoke with a young woman who told us they weren’t busy and that we could come right in. We arrived only 5 minutes later, and the experience immediately went downhill. There was a Hispanic host, who had facial piercings and was incredibly rude and told us we needed a reservation, even though the restaurant was about half full. I tried to place a pickup order online around 7:40 PM, but online ordering was no longer available, so I drove to Miss Toya’s Southern Kitchen in Laurel instead. Their posted closing time is 9:00 PM, and I arrived before 8:30 PM. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but I was told I couldn’t place a to-go order because the kitchen was getting ready to close. The fried chicken at Miss Toya's Southern Kitchen had a crisp, well-seasoned coating, and the mac and cheese was rich and filling. I also ordered the collard greens, which had a nice smoky flavor without being overly salty. The portions were generous, and everything came out hot. The food was good overall, although I thought the seasoning on the chicken could have been a little stronger.
