Opal Direct ended up being favorite opal shop in Coober Pedy! They have a fantastic array of fossils, cut stones, and jewelry. All the local opal is mined by the owner George, and they have a trade arrangement with another miner to bring in lightning ridge opal -- so there's a great boulder opal selection as well. They've got some really unique jewelry in both silver and gold at a good range of price points. Highly recommended if you're looking for something with non-standard cut opals.
Great selection, and George, proprietor and miner-in-residence, really knows his stuff. All his opals are mined in Australia, often by him or a group in Lightning Ridge that he trades with. They're sometimes willing to cut you a deal too.
Just rude and not helpful at all. Found some opals in a mine and I never mentioned where I found them to the owner. He refused to look as he assumed/thought I found them noodling. I was in to purchase something for my partner but after the first interaction he wasn’t getting my business.
Thank you so much for my beautiful earrings. I have always wanted an Opal piece of jewellery. In saying that, I only wanted to buy Opal from Coober Pedy. The lovely lady helped me do exactly that.
