I do not have enough great things to say about Shannon, nor will I ever have the words to express the impact she left during our time working with her. I feel like 5 stars is not enough! I don’t even know where to begin. Meeting Shannon at Midwives Bay Area and having her as my midwife has been a life-changing experience. From the beginning, I felt so held and listened to. We chose Shannon for our second home birth, and we only wish we’d known her before our first. She is warm, deeply competent, and we loved every visit with her. When it came to the birth, things progressed so quickly that my husband caught our son in the bathtub while Shannon was on her way! She arrived ten minutes after the birth, helped us deliver the placenta, and made sure we were all safe and doing well. After reading Shannon’s beautiful and transformative book Born Far From Home, I felt so drawn to having a homebirth. I loved reading about Shannon’s journey to Islam and birth work, and how her faith and spirituality intertwined with her midwifery care. I also enjoyed reading the compelling birth stories and the beautiful way in which she writes about birth.
