I canvassed with them and a few of their sister organizations in NATLFED and all I can say is they organize for a good cause, but execute their advocacy in disingenuous and exploitative ways. They're not an ally to the poor, just communists looking for people to take advantage of. If you're genuinely interested in helping low-income workers or low-income neighborhoods, your time is best spent elsewhere.
I have been a part-time volunteer for Midwest Workers for 20 years. They assist residents in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Chicago (Englewood) by arranging free medical and dental services, assisting them when they experience utility and water shutoffs, and providing food, clothing and other needed help. A great and caring staff. This place does good work.
Unrecognized workers working together for livable wages, utility bills and medical care
Free advisement to the community for many city matters. Utility Bills is one of the useful services on the Southside of Chicago
Sketchy organization - they use high pressure tactics to get volunteers / "members". Your time is better spent elsewhere. Google "NATLFED" and inform yourself before committing.
Midwest Workers Association has a 4.5 star rating with 36 reviews.
Midwest Workers Association is open now. It will close at 6:00 p.m.
