crooks. simple as that. i used to only live in housing “served” by MCEC because they were a good company and cared about their members. in the last 10 years that has changed drastically. also, they like to pretend they are a different company than CarolinaConnect, but they aren’t. 10 days without electricity and on my 27th day without internet. this could and should have been dealt with weeks ago. if you have a choice then use Dominion.
I hate being a customer of this company. When there is mass power outages, they only focus on the high income neighborhoods first. They turn off their truck GPS so that you can't see where the crews are spending most of their time. During this current power outage (due to hurricane Helene) the initial outage map had 48,000 people without power. These people are thieves! We are so careful with our electricity. We used way less electricity in April than in March, yet our bill was almost 3x as much. I thought it was some type of error so I called in to check on it. Turns out they've decided to rob you from 4-7 pm! They take your highest usage during that time frame and charge you an EXTRA $12/kw (on top of the normal $5.15/kwh)! Member Services attempted to make contact with this member, however there was not enough contact information in the complaint for us to identify the account she's referring to. A member services representative reached out to the email address in the complaint and we have yet to hear back from her as of 4/25/22.
They over charge everything. I barely use electricity as it is. I never turn on my heat or AC and I only ever turn on lights to see what I'm doing and then turn them right off. There are spikes in my usage that miraculously appear when I'm at work and I live alone. These people are theives. I've never had a bill under $100 with the little electricity I use

Mr. Anthony Johnson has been a member for about 4 months. Our representative explained to him that electric bills in the winter and summer months tend to be higher because, heating and air units run longer due to colder or hotter temperatures outside, and also explained our rate structure in detail. I had an account with Mid Carolina Electric I moved and I received a bill, that my account was going to collections. I immediately scheduled a payment from the app. I called after the payment process and long behold the same day the money came from my account, my account was reported to the credit agency.
