I am a do-it-yourselfer but I know when to get a licensed expert to do the right job. I do not believe in letting such professionals do basic labor work at their hourly prices when I can do that part myself. I don't put a top electrician on the wrong end of a shovel. When you agree to a scope of work with someone, you should honor it. And if you can't honor it, you should let your customer/client know things have changed, especially when asked. I was quoted a very fair price, and he proceeded to do all the work. I asked twice throughout the process where we were on cost, and each time he gave me zero indication that the price changed.
