Four years ago yesterday I was diagnosed with a rare form of oral melanoma. I was very lucky to have great surgeons who removed my palate and upper right jaw and filled the resulting cavity with a flap from my thigh. After 17 days in icu due to a lung infection ( nature’s immunotherapy ) I went to a nursing home with a tracheotomy and feeding tube.
