Merrill Gardens is lovely unless one actually needs the assisted living that they advertise. We had hoped that our parent would be able to end their days there, but Merrill Gardens is unwilling to provide the care they advertise and that is listed on the contract we signed. Furthermore, their head nurse is really unfit for dealing with the slightest problem and should really find employment where she doesn't have to deal with people. In our experience, as a former residents at Ackerly , we were dissatisfied with Health and Wellness, giving notice to leave after about 10 days to seek care for my wife elsewhere. Those who give five-star ratings here are likely venders, employees, visitors or family members, not residents. Caution: Do not sign anything here without the review of your attorney. You may need an escape clause in the event of unsatisfactory care and threatened to be turned over to a collection agency, as we were.

My wife and I contacted “A Place For Mom “ who were responsive on the phone and arranged for us to be contacted by several assisted and independent living facilities in the north Georgia area. Many of those contacts didn’t work out for a number of reasons but they did give us the confidence to begin our search on our own. Online research helped us narrow our choices of places to visit to five. Two of those were out of our budget. If you truly care about your loved one then PLEASE don't allow them to be put into the Ackerly or any LeisureCare facility. I realize that it's a business and their goal is to make money but they're also dealing with human beings and they didn't treat our Dad as such. Once in memory care, he was left to sit in his chair for most  of the day and all night and developed severe distortion in his neck. BEWARE of this facility! Windsor sent my mother to the hospital where she was found to be malnourished. She died 3 days later. Windsor then refused to release my mother's records to the family. After getting an attorney, Windsor claimed they were not a medical facility and therefore weren't required to keep records. Put your loved ones here at your own risk!! BEWARE of this facility and staff members Bennie (Director) and Wendi (nursing supervisor).
