I visit family in Montevallo a few times a year. On my most recent visit I developed a severe case of cellulitis that required immediate treatment. Dr. Merkle was spot on with diagnosis and kind and gentle with my minor surgery. I was much improved at follow up two days later. I would recommend Dr. Merkle highly.
He has gotten better. When i got out of high school i had ADHD and no longer wanted to take it, but every time I come in he had me take a three page test to get a before number just in case i wanted to take medicine and get an after number. Now i go and that is in the past since he is glad i come at all to see him.
Very unprofessional and unethical
I was treated great however my claim was filed with the incorrect primary diagnosis which cause me to incur an unnecessary co pay
He takes his time with your every visit and if he doesn't know what your problem is, he sends you to someone who can figure it out. He is not afraid to say he doesn't know what the problem is. He does not rush through your visit and will give you a complete, thorough examine. He has removed a couple spots of cancer from my arm and neck and left virtually no scar. I have seen horrible scars on other people that have had the same procedure preformed by their doctor. He has a great staff also.
He has been my MD for years and al of a sudden has become really withdrawn and won't look at me and doesn't listen to the things I say and it didn't start until I lost my job and insurance. He has now decided to stop my medication I've been talking for 13 years now and without explaining as to why! I've never given reason for concern or a problem so all of this is just crazy to me.

Dr. Merkle is a good enough doctor but his staff members are rude and unprofessional. They also seem to have quite a bit of communication problems amongst themselves. Example: I went in for a follow-up visit after a trip to the emergency room concerning heart rate and blood pressure issues. I was told to continue the water pill that the e.r. doctor gave me and come back in 2 weeks. When I went back, Dr. Merkle said "I was hoping to have your test results back by today".
