Has anyone ever actually been able to get an appointment? I have several specialists that have referred me here for JAGA-A and there is 1 doctor in the country studying it. I spoke to their research assistant who told me to call in to get an appointment to get added to the study. All I get is a call center that takes my information then calls me a few days later saying they can not offer me an appointment. They performed an umbilical hernia surgery on me in 2016. The original Doc I consulted with was not the Doc who performed the surgery. The surgeon kinked my intestines when she pushed them back into my body which has caused all type of problems especially digestion issues. When I called there today they said I was "no longer registered in the gastroenterology department because more than 3 years have passed." I came to Mayo Clinic expecting a higher standard of care — not just in medicine, but in professionalism and communication. Instead, I had an experience that felt disorganized, rushed, and honestly, careless. My appointment was set for 7:30 AM — likely the first of the day if not the second time slot. — yet the doctor arrived 45 minutes late, carrying her coffee and purse, and didn’t even apologize or acknowledge the delay. My doctor sent me to Mayo Clinic because his treatment is not working. I am continuously sick and have lost now 40 pounds in the past 6 months. I’m malnourished and have developed an arrhythmia. Mayo Clinic refused to see me because “what the doctor is doing is what we would do.” When the whole reason my doctor sent me is because I obviously need more treatment than he is able to provide.
