My wife had a hip replacement with Dr Jenkins and followed with a stay at the rehab. The staff could not be any more helpful or attentive if they tried. Every single person made my wife's operation, which she had a morbid dread of, comfortable and her recovery bearable. We can not thank the nurses and rehab crew enough. You are all awesome. And especially Dr Jenkins and the Anaesthetist (forgot name sorry) who listened to her fears and made her feel safe and reasurred. Many thanks to you all.
I refer to the displeasure I encountered at the Mater Hospital today. I attended the Cardiovascular Unit Level 7 Raymond Terrace address. Although this is in the public sector of the hospital I was admitted as a private patient. Unfortunately I had a temperature hovering between 38-39 degrees so Pain Specialist canceled my procedure. When my procedure was cancelled I was unceremoniously told to leave. The nursing staff had ordered a gluten free sandwich for me which did not have ingredients I ordered. I turned up to hospital after being admitted for gallbladder surgery from an emergency department. I was taken up to the ward and told to get comfy. When I asked the nurse what was going on she had no idea who I was and what I was in for. She then informed me that the surgeon had gone home. I still had a catheter in my arm. I ended up driving my south west Brisbane 45 minutes with my 6 month old baby to be shoved into a shared room with no surgeon. My daughter had surgery this morning at 10 am. I rang after lunch and asked how she was. I gave the first lady her name and birthdate. Then I was put through to another lady(Think her name was Amanda) who was not very nice and she said she couldn't tell me how she was. Her reason, you aren't down as her next of kin. She is my daughter and I feel that I have the right to know how she is. I said to this lady, "what would happen if she does?" I would not know because I don't talk to her father. I had day clinic surgery yesterday & came home on such a high feeling like I had spent the day having a luxury pamper session. Seriously it’s next level care. Attention to detail in every aspect. I am absolutely blown away & thank management & staff for getting it so right.
